Born on August 4, 2001, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, Reiya began his journey into music by picking up the trumpet at age 11. His foundation in jazz was strengthened during his time at the Sapporo Junior Jazz School, where he studied until 2016.
Reiya quickly made a name for himself by clinching the title as the youngest winner of the Sapporo City Jazz Contest in 2017. The same year saw him winning the Grand Prix at the Hokkaido Groove Camp. His persistence and hunger for learning were evident when he participated in the Berklee College of Music Summer Program in 2018, where he earned a full scholarship for the 5-week intensive course.
